Brenda Rennie, Chairman

High Blood Pressure Foundation 15th Annual Report 2005

High Blood Pressure Foundation Chairman's Report 2005

I am delighted to be giving my report for the year ended September 2005.

Life is never quiet in the Foundation and we have had a particularly enjoyable year.

The highlight was a lunch in April at the Roxburghe Hotel  at which the speaker was Jamie Andrew, the author of the book ‘’Life and Limb’’. You could have heard a pin drop as Jamie told us about losing his limbs while mountaineering on Mont Blanc. We were spell bound and not a little humbled.  The lunch raised  £2600.

The year had started as is now traditional with a Festive Dinner, this time at the George Hotel.  We all enjoyed a relaxing evening and our Trustee Cedric Chater masterminded the auction.

One of the aims of the charity is to educate the public about the incidence of high blood pressure and we hold Awareness days regularly. Members of the public have the opportunity of having their blood pressure measured  and informative material is available. In February we held such a day at Princes Mall and in August at the Airport. On both those occasions there were people with raised blood pressure who were advised to see their GP.

Susan Inch , our HBPF nurse participates in all these projects and liaises with GP practices with a number of initiatives aimed at supporting patients who have been diagnosed as having hypertension and assisting in assessment of high blood pressure.

The Foundation in a difficult fund raising climate is managing to ‘’keep afloat’’ and for this is greatly indebted to our sterling director Ros Newton.  I am grateful to my fellow trustees and our Treasurer Peter Yellowlees for their diligence and hard work on behalf of the Foundation.

My warmest thanks to all our supporters for all that they do to allow the charity to flourish.

With my best wishes

Brenda L Rennie
